One-Piece Wonders

Although Houston's weather can be quite unpredictable, the sun is finally out and the breeze is delightful! Spring is in the air! Ladies, it's time to lose those layers and try out this years hottest runway trends. Women's fashion is about wearing iconic pieces of clothing that make you feel and look amazing! This may sound a little crazy but…jumpsuits are all the rage on this years 2010 Spring runway shows. Yeah, that's right, jumpsuits. It wasn't long ago that these playsuits & rompers were a Spring/Summer must-have. Well as fashion often repeats itself, one-piece anythings are back in style!
There are many different styles that you can wear day-to-day, from work to play.
Fashion Exception: Although we saw overalls on the Ralph Lauren Spring/Summer 2010 catwalk, I think there is sometimes a line between runway and everyday. I am not a huge fan for full out denim outfits so we can just make an exception and say that denim overalls will hopefully be dead forever.
Work to Play: A tailored jumpsuit can be sophisticated and office-ready and easily dressed up with jewels to transition into a night look. Look for crisp fabrics and cinched waists to achieve this look.
Evening Wear: Long and flowing jumpsuits are the new chic alternative to the traditional evening gown. Alber Elbaz for Lanvin nailed this look with single-shouldered and sequined jumpsuits. Opt for luxurious fabrics such as silk and details like sequins or sheer panels. These can be worn with a small belt cinched at the waist and a simple diamond cuff to add a little wow-factor. It is the simplicity of this look that makes it classy and elegant with a slight edge.
Fun in the Sun: Now that your busy week is over, its time to slip into laid-back fabrics that allow you to take in the breeze. Loose and flowing fabrics are great for those weekend outings! It's no surprise that floral prints are back in for Spring. Ground breaking trends, don't you think? I beg to differ. Solid colored playsuits and rompers look fab with playful jewelry, strappy sandals, and a fun shoulder bag or clutch to polish off the look. If you do opt to go the floral route, earthy toned belts and gladiators are the way to go.
One piece outfits are super versatile and are easily dressed up or down. Effortlessly pair these one-piece wonders with contrasting colored crop jackets, bold-statement jewelry pieces, belts, and interesting layers to make this trend fit your style!

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

For now I will blog about the runway show that I was so excited to see on the list this year.
I unfortunately didn't get to see the end of Season 6 of Project Runway. I was absolutely excited to see that Irina Shabayeva was the winner. Although I wasn't her biggest fan at the beginning of the show, I did notice her flawless craftsmanship and creative vision. I adored the black and beige colors, long feathers, and structured pieces that came down the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
Ooh! I was also super super happy to see that Kalyn Hemphill on "Models of the Runway" carried on to rock the runway in Irina's show in NYC. I love her look...its very edgy. She is so cute and has a great walk! I know this is going to be a kick-start to her fashion career.

Ok...update.
Well my mind tends to wander so I can't remember everything that has gone on since I wrote last.
I've been so busy between work and classes that I don't really have time to write so I guess I will be keeping up with this when I can't seem to fall asleep.
Today was a pretty laid back day at work. I went to lunch at the Hotel Intercontinental here in Houston with Nicole and Leslie. Barbara Bush received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Houston Rotary Club. It was great to be in the presence of someone who has helped so many people and given back so much to her community. We should have a story up on RSVPsocial.com soon as well as my pictures, but until then I'll attach a video link from KHOU.

ummmm, hi?
Name: Amanda Silva
I live in Houston, TX. Photography Major at the Art Institute aka "90grand worth of Debt."
Definitely a punch to the gut but I figure 90k for a piece of paper that claims that my pictures aren't completely dull, is a pretty good deal. I work as a photographer for a local social magazine (RSVPsocial.com) and I am also a personal assistant for this one chic who is basically a socialite here in Houston and is co-owner to the mag (LeslieTylerFink). The job has it's perks but I don't want to go into detail so I'll move on.
I've always wanted to start a blog of some sort, but never actually thought I'd keep up with it (which I still might have a hard time with). I have STARTED many diaries and journals, trying to leave something behind for someone to read. My mark left in the world, I suppose. Unfortunately, life happens and the time seems to slip away from me these days, so I have diaries with possibly 5 pages written on in each. I don't like small notebooks and pens since I'm a lefty and usually end up with ink all over my hand. I figured blogging online would be a less messy method of keeping track of my thoughts.
Goals for this blog?
All I want to accomplish is to document the little thoughts that bounce around in my head.
Share art with the world. Mine, as well as others I admire. This is mostly going to be a fashion based kinda blog. I grew up in a small boring town where Abercrombie is all the rave. LAME! Thankfully though, I finally saw the fashion light. I picked up my first issue of Teen Vogue at HEB of all place and fell omg in love. I feel like true fashion is kind of effortless. It's an expression of who you are. I myself am a pretty laid back kinda gal. RayBans, V-neck, blazer, and cuffed boyfriend jeans...some comfortable shoes (heels now and then). Easy. I love slapping together quirky outfits but often fail to do so simply because some mornings I just don't feel like it. When I do get dressed, I'm always very conscious. Like VERY. I'm scared to look like I'm TRYING to be an 'artsy' person. You know...like those kids at school that give off that "I'm an artist and this is how I express myself" vibe. When I see them in the hallway I'm like "Ha. Yeah, you're real cool. Those zebra stripes and skinny jeans truly do express who you are as an artist. Super original." I just don't consider that fashion. That's called being a poser thanks to Hot Topic (which I was guilty of buying at one point in my life, I admit). Ahhhh ok enough! Random thought overload!!!!
